It is with great pride and deep honour that I welcome you to the official website of the Bangladesh Law Association (BLA) UK—the distinguished alumni network of former students of the Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka, residing and practising in the United Kingdom.
The University of Dhaka, often referred to as the “Oxford of the East,” has been a cradle of legal intellect and a beacon of academic excellence for over a century. This University, known as the intellectual heart of Bangladesh, has produced generations of distinguished legal minds. Our Faculty has produced generations of jurists, scholars, judges, practitioners, and policy-makers who have contributed significantly to the development of the legal systems in Bangladesh and abroad. Here in the UK, we are proud to uphold and advance that legacy. Many of our members lead law firms, contribute to important legal reforms, and hold respected positions within British and international legal institutions. BLA UK provides a platform for connection, collaboration, and continuous professional development, rooted in our shared academic heritage. BLA UK was formed to create a professional and social platform for the alumni of Dhaka University’s Faculty of Law who have settled or are practising in the UK. Our growing membership of over 200 distinguished professionals includes solicitors, barristers, legal academics, and entrepreneurs—many of whom have founded or lead law firms, contribute to legal reforms, or serve key roles in British and international legal institutions.
The launch of this website marks a significant milestone in our journey. It is more than a digital space—it is a living archive of our collective achievements, professional identities, and shared values. Through this platform, we aim to:
=> Showcase the profiles of our members, highlighting their professional designations, contributions to legal practice, and leadership roles within the UK legal landscape.
=> Promote collaboration and professional networking among members, as well as with wider legal communities in both the UK and Bangladesh.
=> Support legal research and scholarly activities, reflecting our commitment to thought leadership and evidence-based legal reform.
=> Organize events, seminars, symposium and conferences on contemporary legal issues, policy debates, and cross-jurisdictional matters relevant to our members and the wider public.
=> Mentor aspiring law students and young professionals, especially those from Bangladeshi backgrounds, who wish to pursue legal careers in the UK.
This website will also serve as a bridge between generations, connecting our heritage with future aspirations. It reflects our vision of a dynamic, inclusive, and intellectually engaged alumni community that continues to contribute meaningfully to the legal profession and society at large.
