Terms and Conditions for Membership of BLA UK

1. Introduction and Acceptance of Terms


1.1 Welcome to BLA UK (the "Group"), an independent association dedicated to fostering connections among alumni of Department of Law, University of Dhaka.

1.2 These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your membership of the Group and your use of any services, events, platforms, or resources provided by the Group (collectively, "Services").

1.3 By applying for membership, becoming a member, or using any of our Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms, our Privacy Policy ([Link to your Privacy Policy]), and any other policies or guidelines that we may publish from time to time. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not apply for or accept membership.

1.4 These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and BLA UK.


2. Membership

2.5 Membership Period: Membership is typically for Lifetime unless otherwise specified.

2.6 Termination by Member: You may terminate your membership at any time by notifying the Group in writing. Membership fees are generally non-refundable upon termination.

2.7 Termination by Group: The Group reserves the right to suspend or terminate your membership at its sole discretion if you:

a. Breach any of these Terms or our Privacy Policy.

b. Engage in conduct that is disruptive, abusive, unlawful, or harmful to the Group, its members, or the University.

c. Provide false or misleading information during the application process or at any time during your membership.

d. Are deemed to be bringing the Group or the University into disrepute.

The Group will typically provide written notice of termination, outlining the reasons, and allowing for an opportunity to respond where appropriate, before final termination.


3. Use of Services and Member Conduct


3.1 Purpose of the Group: The Group's primary purpose is to foster camaraderie, networking, professional development, and continued engagement among alumni of [Your Alma Mater/University Name].

3.2 Acceptable Use: You agree to use the Group's Services and resources only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe upon the rights of, or restrict or inhibit the use and enjoyment of the Group by, any third party. This includes, but is limited to:

a. Respecting the privacy and personal data of other members in accordance with our Privacy Policy and UK data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018).

b. Refraining from sending unsolicited commercial communications (spam) to other members.

c. Not posting or sharing content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, offensive, hateful, discriminatory, or otherwise objectionable.

d. Not using the Group's platforms or contact information for commercial solicitation, political campaigning, or any purpose unrelated to the Group's mission, without express prior written consent from the Group.

e. Not attempting to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Group's systems or data.

3.3 Events and Activities:

a. Participation in Group events and activities may be subject to additional terms, conditions, or fees, which will be communicated at the time of registration.

b. The Group reserves the right to refuse admission or remove any individual from an event if their conduct is disruptive or violates these Terms.

c. Event details (e.g., speakers, times, venues) are subject to change, and the Group will endeavour to provide reasonable notice of any changes.

3.4 Online Platforms: If the Group provides online forums, directories, social media groups, or other digital platforms, you agree to abide by any specific rules of conduct posted on those platforms.

3.5 Disclaimer of Endorsement: The Group does not endorse or take responsibility for the content of any third-party websites, products, or services linked from our platforms or promoted by individual members.


4. Privacy and Data Protection


4.1 Your privacy is important to us. Our collection, use, and storage of your personal data are governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

4.2 By becoming a member, you acknowledge and agree that your personal data may be collected and processed by the Group in accordance with our Privacy Policy, for purposes including:

a. Managing your membership.

b. Communicating with you about Group activities, news, and opportunities.

c. Facilitating connections with other alumni (where you have opted-in or not opted-out of such sharing).

d. Analysing engagement to improve our Services.

4.3 You have rights regarding your personal data under UK data protection law, including the right to access, rectify, erase, or restrict the processing of your data. Details on how to exercise these rights are provided in our Privacy Policy.


5. Intellectual Property


5.1 All content, trademarks, logos, and materials created by or for the Group (excluding user-generated content) are the property of the Group or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. You may not use, reproduce, or distribute any such materials without the express written permission of the Group.

5.2 You retain ownership of any content you create and submit to the Group (e.g., forum posts, photos). However, by submitting content, you grant the Group a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, and sub-licensable right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, and display such content in connection with the Group's activities.


6. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

While we strive to provide a valuable and functional service, we make no warranties or representations of any kind, express or implied, regarding the availability, reliability, accuracy, completeness, or suitability of the Services for any particular purpose.

6.3 Limitation of Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by UK law, the Group, its officers, volunteers, and agents shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from:

a. Your access to or use of or inability to access or use the Services.

b. Any conduct or content of any third party on the Services.

c. Any content obtained from the Services.

d. Unauthorised access, use or alteration of your transmissions or content.

e. Any actions or omissions of other members.

6.4 Exclusions: Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable UK law.


7. Indemnification


You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Group, its officers, volunteers, and agents from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees and costs, arising out of or in any way connected with:

a. Your breach of these Terms.

b. Your use of the Services.

c. Your violation of any applicable law or the rights of a third party.


8. General Provisions


8.1 Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the Group regarding your membership and use of the Services.

8.2 Amendments: The Group reserves the right to amend these Terms at any time. We will notify members of any significant changes by posting the updated Terms on our website and/or via email. Your continued membership or use of the Services after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.

8.3 Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

8.4 Waiver: No waiver of any term of these Terms shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such term or any other term, and the Group's failure to assert any right or provision under these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.

8.5 Governing Law and Jurisdiction: These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. You agree that the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with these Terms.
